India is open to new technologies that will help it leapfrog into the fourth industrial revolution but the challenge would be to create enough good jobs, railway minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu said at the India Economic Summit.

"The new economic growth in the last decade has not added to jobs. Hence the challenge for us is to create more jobs while moving towards the fourth industrial revolution," Prabhu said.

According to Prabhu, new technologies have adverse impacts on environment and the society. "We have to create more uniquely placed jobs," he said, adding that technologies that can better address these challenges should be adopted.

Every year 12 million people are added to the country's workforce but the number of jobs created in the country despite all push are not able to match the demand.

Prabhu was speaking at a session on India's fourth industrial revolution at the 32nd India Economic Summit. IES has been jointly organised by the World Economic Forum and the CII.

"The fourth industrial revolution will also provide an opportunity to cater to challenges that are exclusive to India," Prabhu added.
