Voter turnout for Maharashtra Assembly elections stood at 43.78 per cent till 3 pm, ANI reported quoting official sourcwa. Voter turnout for Mumbai city district stood at 35 per cent while the total turnout in Pune district was recorded at 41.1 per cent. Out of 288 Assembly constituencies in the state, Karvir witnessed the highest voter turnout of 65.61 per cent while Ulhasnagar witnessed the lowest at 25.82 per cent till 3 pm.

EVM glitches reported in some areas, officials say complaints exaggerated

Complaints of faulty EVM and VVPAT machines have been coming in from different parts of Maharashtra, reports ET Bureau. Most of them have been from Ratnagiri and Bhandara districts. In the latest incident being reported from Chikli in Buldhana, the EVM machine has stopped working from 1pm following which there is long queue outside Booth no 196 in Chikli. Polling in Ratnagiri’s Dhamangaon village was stopped for nearly 2 hours due to EVM malfunctioning. Similarly in Worli, where Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray is contesting there was brief stoppage of polling in one of the booths due to an EVM glitch. This was later rectified.This was later rectified. Congress has sent 187 compaints to EC. However, officials say the complaints are exxaggerated and that the glitches have been rectified soon.

"We have done a lot of work in various areas, particularly in irrigation and agriculture. Maharashtra is progressing a lot. Congress complains to EC over EVM malfunctioning

Faulty EVMs delayed polling at some booths in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri and Bhandara districts, PTI reported quotimg an unnamed official. Polling was also halted for sometime at a booth in Worli area of Mumbai due to a technical error, he said. In Ratnagiri's Dhamangaon village, polling was stopped at a booth from 8.30 am to 10 am due to a technical fault in the electronic voting machine (EVM). The EVM glitch also halted the polling process at a booth in Kalamban Gavhanwadi village in Ratnagiri since 9.42 am, he said, adding that voting resumed there around 12.30 pm. In Bhandara district, polling was disrupted from 9.15 am to 9.35 am due to a similar issue. The state Congress unit also sent 187 complaints to the Election Commission of malfunctioning of EVMs

Nearly 25 per cent polling till noon in Haryana

Haryana had recorded a polling percentage of nearly 25 per cent by noon, reported PTI. Among the constituencies where brisk polling was going on included Kaithal (32 per cent), Guhla reserved segment (31 per cent), Thanesar (27.64 per cent), Sirsa (27 per cent), Narnaund (32 per cent), Tohana (30.50 per cent), Tosham (36 per cent), Rewari (30 per cent). Among the segments where polling was comparatively less included Gurgaon (14.30 per cent), Faridabad (12.26 per cent), Panchkula (19.20 per cent) and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's home constituency Karnal (16.10 per cent).

Altogether 17.5 per cent voters exercised their franchise in the first four hours in Maharashtra. Bihar by-polls: 7.45% voting in Samastipur LS constituency, 8.14% in 5 Assembly seats till 9 am

  • Simri Bakhtiarpur recorded the highest turnout of voters at 11%, followed by 9.76% in Belhar, 8% in Kishanganj and 7% each in Nathnagar and Daraundha in the first two hours of polling.
  • Central para-military forces, Bihar Military Police and Special Auxiliary Police jawans have been deployed at all the 3,258 polling stations.
  • The fate of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan's nephew Prince Raj and Congress nominee Ashok Ram will be decided at the by-poll to the Samastipur constituency.
  • Of the 51 candidates in the fray in the by-polls, four each are from the JD(U) and the RJD and one each from the BJP and the LJP.
  • The CPI has put up three candidates while the Congress has fielded two nominees.
  • Some 24 independent candidates are also in the fray.

About eight per cent polling was recorded in the first hour for two assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh, a state election official told PTI. Eight per cent polling has been recorded for Pachhad, whereas 7.8 per cent for Dharamshala till 9 am, he said. Voting in Sikkim began at 8 am.
