The EC asked chief electoral officers “to immediately withdraw/remove both versions of the video from all platforms”.
The EC is learnt to have written to Chief Electoral Officers of all states and Union Territories on 29th April asking them “to immediately withdraw/remove both the versions of the video from all the platforms” in their respective states.

The EC communication says that it had received a complaint regarding the said ECI ‘awareness video’ wherein ‘the girl on stage is wearing a jacket having pattern that resembles the symbol of a political party’.

The Commission has directed that all versions of the said video be withdrawn immediately from Doordarshan, all private channels, social media forums and all other platforms where it may have been shared, ET has learnt.

“The same has been removed by ECI from DD, private channels and all the social media channels’, the EC has said in its communication to CEOs in which it has directed them “to withdraw the video from all platforms”.

Two versions of the video- one which is 1.38 seconds long and another that is 20 seconds long- have been yanked off following EC orders.

The video is part of a ten video series launched by ECI ahead of Lok Sabha elections. The videos features children as narrators and it is one of these that a girl is seen wearing a Rajasthani style jacket with the elephant pattern on it, EC officials told ET.

While the said video was no where seen as pitching for a political party in any way, the poll watchdog has preferred to withdraw the video altogether after the complaint.
