NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party has declared nine candidates for the 2019 polls, with four seats going to the Yadav family members and at least three seats complicating any future understanding with the Congress in Uttar Pradesh.

The sitting party MP from Baduan and Akhilesh Yadav’s cousin, Dharmendra Yadav will contest again from Badaun while Shabbir Balmiki will be SP’s candidate from Bahriach. This complicates any future equation with Congress which declared a candidate from Badaun just a day earlier. The sitting MP from Bahriach, Savitri Bai Phule joined Congress from BJP last week and is set to be given a ticket by Congress from Bahraich. Phule earlier approached the SP for a ticket but Akhilesh Yadav had not taken her on board. SP also declared a woman candidate from Kheri, a seat which Congress won in 2009 and is eyeing this time. Congress meanwhile declared a candidate from Akbarpur, a BSP stronghold seat.

The sitting MP from Kannauj, Dimple Yadav, will contest from the same seat for the Samajwadi Party though Akhilesh Yadav had earlier said Dimple would not contest and he would contest from Kannauj. Akhilesh is now expected to contest from Azamgarh, the seat won and retained by Mulayam Singh Yadav last time. The veteran SP leader has been named the candidate from his traditional seat of Mainpuri, from where the sitting MP and another Yadav family member Tej Pratap Yadav will now have to be accommodated on some other seat by the SP. Another Yadav family member and sitting MP from Firozabad, Akshay Yadav, will be the candidate again and is expected to take on his uncle, Shivpal Yadav.

BSP is now expected to come out with its first candidate list over the weekend.
