Dogs take the centre stage!

Britain's general election is going to the dogs, quite literally. Voters took their pooches to polling stations up and down the country. Twitter and other social media platforms are resplendent with pictures of dogs accompanying their owners to the polling station with the trending #dogsatpollingstations.

The #dogsatpollingstations hashtag has been used more than 45,000 times on Twitter by Thursday.

The dogs were dressed up in Christmas-themed costumes varying from a reindeer to bumble bee to Santa Claus. Most of the pets were sitting outside the polling station, near the sign posts.
While one was festooned with festive lights, another sported a Christmas tree cap held loosely on its head.
