Pakistan approves initial funds to purchase COVID-19 vaccine
Pakistan approved $150 million in funding to buy COVID-19 vaccines, initially to cover the most vulnerable 5% of the population, the de facto health minister said.
The initial phase of vaccinations would focus on providing free shots for frontline health workers and people above the age of 65 years, Faisal Sultan told a news conference in Islamabad, adding that the go-ahead for funding the programme had been given at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Mumbai: NCB seeks cancellation of Bharti Singh, husband's bail
The Narcotics Control Bureau has approached a special NDPS court in Mumbai seeking cancellation of bail of comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh Limbhachiya in a drug case.
The couple was arrested on November 21 after 86.5 grams of ganja were allegedly found in their home during a raid and the two were granted bail by a magistrate court on a bond of Rs 15,000 each.
The NCB approached the special NDPS court seeking cancellation of bail and allowing the agency their custodial interrogation by setting aside a lower court's order remanding them to judicial custody.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq hit record highs as hopes that a COVID-19 vaccine will be available soon and better-than-expected factory data from China bolstered bets of a speedy economic recovery.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 409.86 points or 1.38% to 30,048.50, the S&P 500 gained 49.33 points, or 1.36% to 3,670.96 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 136.25 points or 1.12% to 12,334.61.

Govt asks farmer unions to submit specific issues in farm laws by Wednesday
The government has asked farmers' bodies to identify specific issues related to the three new farm laws and submit those by Wednesday for consideration and discussion in the next round of talks, an official statement said after a nearly three-hour-long meeting remained inconclusive.
Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar, railways and commerce minister Piyush Goyal, and minister of state for commerce and industries Som Prakash on Tuesday interacted with the representatives of 35 farmers organisations, mainly from Punjab.

US factories grew more slowly last month; index dips to 57.5
American factories grew at a slower pace last month and there are concerns that surging coronavirus infections will endanger an economic recovery.
The Institute of Supply Management, an association of purchasing managers, reported that its manufacturing index dipped to 57.5 in November from 59.3 in October.
Any reading above 50 signals that manufacturing is expanding. The ISM index plunged in the spring but has since bounced back and now shows factories on a six-month winning streak.

Amid concerns over China building a major hydropower project on the Brahmaputra river in Tibet, India too plans to construct a multipurpose reservoir in Arunachal Pradesh to offset its impact.
T S Mehra, Commissioner (Brahmaputra and Barak), in the Jal Shakti ministry said the multi-purpose 10,000 MW hydropower project is under consideration.
This project will help offset the impact of the hydropower project by China.
