The President made a long list of promises, when he addressed both houses of Parliament on Thursday; the most ambitious of which is India becoming a 5 trillion dollar economy by 2020 - our 75th year of independence.
The list of promises included a pension scheme for shopkeepers and retail traders, in keeping with the Modi government’s plans of supporting the unorganised sector.
The president also talked about the establishment of the Jal Shakti ministry, which would solely focus on the looming water crisis. Which, considering the situation in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, might just be too little too late.
