BHUBANESWAR: All 250 odd staff of the Odisha assembly have been quarantined after it emerged that the third positive case in the state had visited Vidhan Sabha's dispensary.

Assembly speaker and senior Biju Janata Leader, Surya Narayan Patro told the media that the Vidhan Sabha and its premises would be disinfected. “We have come to know that one of our employees has come in contact with the third patient from Odisha. The entire staff members need to be quarantined,” he said.

The assembly itself which was to meet to pass the appropriation bill on 30 March will gather in the convention centre of Lok Seva Bhavan (state secretariat) instead. Patro said the exercise could be carried out with thirty percent of the state’s legislators, the majority of who belong to the BJD, in attendance.

On 26 March, the state government reported that a 60-year-old man with no travel history abroad but who had recently returned from New Delhi and Rewari in Haryana had tested positive. He had traveled back with wife and daughter on a New Delhi- Bhubaneswar Indigo flight on 10 March, and everyone that may have been on that flight has been advised to immediately quarantine themselves.

The government while announcing had also warned people off the city’s popular Kar Clinic where the patient had been admitted to the ICU for a day. It has no emerged that he had also sought treatment in the Vidhan Sabha’s dispensary before that.
