    Assam flood death toll touches 67

    Synopsis

    According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one each body was recovered from Dhemaji, Goalpara and Rangiya and two bodies from Morigaon districts.

    GUWAHATI: The death toll in the current wave of flood in Assam has increased to 67. There is improvement in the flood situation in the state.

    According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one each body was recovered from Dhemaji, Goalpara and Rangiya and two bodies from Morigaon districts.

    Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi on Sunday visited two Relief camps in Bokakhat sub-division along with Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister for Forest and Environment.

    They later visited Mihimukh of Kaziranga and discussed various issues of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) with forest officials.

    Since July 13, Kaziranga lost 115 hog deer. The park has lost 12 rhinos. Between July 13 and July 15, almost 90% of Kaziranga, about 250 KM from here, went underwater.

    Governor made an aerial survey of flood in the districts of Darrang, Morigaon, Nagaon and Golaghat. Water levels in several areas are receding. A total 2,669 number of villages in 65 revenue circles of 18 number of Districts ofDhemaji, Biswanath, Darrang, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon,

    Golaghat, Jorhat and Cachar, are inundated affecting a population of 38, 37, 354.

    Presently, 658 numbers of Relief Camps are operational with 1, 15,389 inmates and 171 Relief Distribution Centres are functioning.
