Assam will ramp up its testing facility to 10,000 per day:Himanta Biswa Sarma

The health minister said that Assam is getting around 100 positive cases every day, however, on Friday it reported more infections. “We are getting more cases as we are testing more samples. However the number of people coming from outside the state is reducing and we are expecting that by June 10 this will stabilise.”

GUWAHATI: Assam health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that next couple of days Assam will ramp up its testing facility to 10,000 per day.

Sarma said on Friday Assam tested over 8000 samples and there is now plan to scale up the same to 10,000 per day. “Earlier we were testing 4000 to 5000. With increased testing we are getting more cases. “

The health minister said that Assam is getting around1 00 cases everyday however on Friday it was more. “We are getting more cases as we are testing more samples. However the number of people coming from outside the state is reducing and we are expecting that by June 10 this will stabilise.”

Assam has put in place seven days institutional and seven days home quarantine for those coming from outside the state. “Some people got down on way to evade quarantine however we seek the support of the villagers for these people will ultimately go to their respective villages. To control COVID-19 we have to ensure that quarantine norms are strictly followed,”Sarma added.

Assam has around 1100 positive cases.
