Backing centre, RSS says government must reach out to other parties and people on CAA

RSS said that the BJP, as the ruling party, should convince other political parties and people on how the move was in the ‘interest of the nation’ and derided “certain parties and powerful lobby” for ‘misleading’ CAA-NPR-NRC protesters.

The RSS welcomed the dilution of Article 370 and called it a historical decision.
NEW DELHI: While the highest decision making body meeting of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was cancelled due to Covid-19, its executive body on Monday announced its resolve to support the government on the Citizenship Amendment Act.

It said that the BJP, as the ruling party, should convince other political parties and people on how the move was in the ‘interest of the nation’ and derided “certain parties and powerful lobby” for ‘misleading’ CAA-NPR-NRC protesters.

RSS general secretary Suresh Bhaiyaji Joshi said the Prime Minister and Home Minister had tried their best to “clarify misconceptions.” The BJP is the ruling party and they should try its best to discuss the issue. “One has the right to oppose something that is not good for the country, but everyone should support what is good for the country. No outsider is permitted to stay in any country beyond a certain period. Amendments to the Citizenship Act were necessary as it is important to know who is an infiltrator and to give citizenship to those who were forced to leave,” Joshi said.

Significantly, the government has said in its clarification on CAA that it was only to bestow citizenship to religious minority refugees from neighbouring countries as the result of Partition and has not mentioned anything about ‘infiltrators.’

The RSS also welcomed the dilution of Article 370 and called it a historical decision. The special provision was "against the spirit of the Constitution" and had only alienated Kashmir from India. It also thanked the Supreme Court for its verdict handing over the entire disputed land in Ayodhya for the Ram Temple.

Joshi said the work of the RSS was spread across 70,000 towns and villages, which included 39,000 everyday shakhas. He added that they have identified programmes to train and empower the youth, between the age-groups of 18 to 35, particularly in the area of social reform.

The meeting was to set priorities for the next year, make key appointment and take stock of developments.
