Bihar's overall test positivity rate has dropped by half to nearly 5% from 9.5% as on August 1, the daily test positivity rate lately has come down from 9% to just 1.63% and the state’s recovery rate has sharply risen from 65% to 78% over the same period of the last three weeks.
This is after over 1.7 million tests have been done in Bihar in August and though 90% of the daily tests lately have been the rapid antigen tests, the state has so far managed to reduce the impact of the pandemic. The fatality rate of Bihar has also been dropping, going below 0.5%.
As per the Centre’s assessment of various states, an overall test positivity rate of below 5% and a fatality rate of less than 1% shows that a particular state has a grip over the coronavirus situation.
The national recovery rate is at around 74% and Bihar is better placed in that as well. A senior state government official told ET that testing had been specifically increased in the worst-affected district of Patna, which has seen nearly 115,000 tests so far and around 18,000 positive cases. However, Patna has only about 3,100 active cases.
A JDU leader said a majority of ICU and corona-dedicated beds in Patna’s leading hospitals were vacant as recovery was high and some patients were in home-isolation.
