MUMBAI: The BJP on Thursday said that the party delegation to meet Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari will not be to stake claim to form the government and instead the party would ‘apprise the Governor about the political situation’ in the state.

BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar who along with Chandrakant Patil is supposed to meet the Governor at 2pm said, “We are not going to form the government. We will apprise him about the political situation, make him aware about the political situation, constitutional issues and provisions will be discussed.”said Mungantiwar. He added, “Our efforts would be to ensure that we are able to give a stable government.”

Incidentally, BJP seemed to have changed its stand on staking a claim without the Sena on board. Mungantiwar said that the party would not stake a claim to form a minority government if it doesn’t have the numbers. “Under any circumstances the BJP will not have a form a minority government.”

Mungantiwar said that the BJP delegation would be talking about constitutional provisions is a sign that the party may not be averse to the President’s rule in the state and may be an attempt to get the Sena to come on board as there would be pressure on the Sena leadership from the Sena MLA’s.

Mungantiwar said that the Shiv Sena would come around and said that the party is engaged in talks with the Sena.

“We had disagreements with the Sena earlier too and in the past, they said that they will not be with us however we are still together, this is not as serious as those conflicts.”said Mungantiwar.

The BJP leader said that there was no attempt to break the Sena MLA’s in order to support the government and said that the BJP and Sena MLA’s could not be easily influenced to break from the party.”

The BJP leader said that the party would be forming a government with the Sena and not any other party.
