NEW DELHI: The two-day BJP national executive meeting beginning here on Saturday will be dedicated to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The meeting will focus on strategies for the assembly elections to Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana as well as the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The conclave assumes significance in the wake of the impending elections with Congress being the main adversary of BJP in four of the poll-bound states and the grand old party being a part of the triangular fight in Telangana.

BJP sources said the theme of the conclave will be “Sadaev Atal (forever Atal)” and will begin with a homage to the party veteran.

“The Ambedkar International Centre (the venue of the national executive meet) is Atalmaya (has Vajpayee’s photos everywhere),” a senior BJP leader said.

“This is the first national executive meet of BJP in which Vajpayee will not be with us. Even when he was unwell, we felt he was among us. BJP has acquired this stature under his margadarshan,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.

Party chief Amit Shah will deliver the inaugural address which will also touch upon the Dalit outreach among other important political issues. The venue- built by the NDA government in memory of Dalit icon Ambedkar- has also been chosen to send across a message to the community. A political resolution will be passed which will cover all the important issues, both domestic and foreign.

New political developments such as the arrest of “urban naxals” and its fallout-will be included in the resolution. A counter to the opposition which has raked up the Rafale fighter jet deal and slammed the RSS is also likely to be a part of the resolution. Poll-bound states Mizoram will present their report cards to Shah. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will render his speech on Sunday afternoon.
