  • Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday informed that state police is collecting the call details records (CDR) of COVID-19 patients for contact tracing to arrest the spread of viral disease.
  • Kerala police are using the contact-tracing strategy to determine how many people came in contact with the COVID-19 positive patients and whether these people are showing any symptoms of the disease.
  • Addressing a press meet, the Chief Minister rejected the concerns about this move intruding into the privacy of citizens and clarified that there will be no intrusion into the patient's privacy.

Bhutan imposes 1st nationwide virus lockdown

  • The Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan has imposed its first nationwide lockdown due to virus infection in a returning traveller who had been released from quarantine.
  • The government issued a stay-at-home order for its approximately 750,000 people, and all schools, offices and commercial establishments were closed.
  • The government's statement said the lockdown would be enforced from five to 21 days “to identify and isolate all positive cases, immediately breaking the chain of transmission.”

Pakistan reports 753 new coronavirus cases

  • Pakistan reported 753 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, taking the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 286,673, the health ministry said.
  • The Ministry of National Health Services reported on its COVID-19 dedicated website that 10 COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, pushing the number of total deaths to 6,139.
  • So far, 264,060 people have recovered from COVID-19, while 783 were in critical condition.

Telangana crosses 86K mark in Covid cases, death toll reaches 665

  • Telangana on Thursday reported 1,931 new Covid positive cases, resulting in a total of 86,475 cases by Wednesday night.
  • The state reported 11 Covid deaths afresh, taking the total death toll to 665, translating into a case fatality rate of 0.76% as against the national average of 1.97%. Of the deceased, 46.13% died of Covid and 53.87% due to co-morbidities.
  • Telangana announced 1,780 recoveries over the past 24 hours to take the total recoveries to 63,074 persons, constituting a recovery rate of 72.93% as against the national average of 70.37%.
  • By Wednesday night, the state saw 22,736 active cases, which include 15,621 persons in either home or institutional isolation where about 84% were asymptomatic.

Over 3 crore N95 masks, 1.28 crore PPEs, 10 crore HCQ tablets given to states, UTs by Centre for free

  • The government has distributed more than 3.04 crore N95 masks and over 1.28 crore personal protection equipment (PPE) kits among the states, Union territories and central institutions for free since March 11, the health ministry said on Thursday.
  • Also, more than 10.83 crore hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) tablets have been distributed among them, it added.
  • In addition, 22,533 "Make in India" ventilators have been delivered to various states, Union territories and central institutions, the ministry said, adding that the Centre is also ensuring the installation and commissioning of the machines.

Keeping tab on fees of pvt COVID hospitals: Nagpur collector

  • Nagpur: The district administration here in Maharashtra has deputed its officials to monitor rates being charged by private COVID-19 hospitals following complaints of some medical facilities charging hefty amounts from patients.
  • Sales tax and GST officials were given training a few days back to keep a check on the rates being charged by hospitals in Nagpur, Resident Deputy Collector Ravindra Khajanji said on Wednesday.
  • The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is also keeping an eye on the fees of private hospitals in the city. There are six private hospitals treating COVID-19 patients in the city.
