A three-judge bench led by Justice R Banumathi on Thursday reserved its order on the Congress leader’s bail plea.
NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate said in the Supreme Court that it would have arrested Karti Chidambaram in the INX Media case but for a high court order protecting him, and that P Chidambaram cannot now demand parity with his son and seek bail.

A three-judge bench led by Justice R Banumathi on Thursday reserved its order on the Congress leader’s bail plea.

The ED is prosecuting the former minister also on charges of money laundering over an alleged Rs 10 lakh bribe paid to a shell company with connections to his son, Karti. This payment that the ED cited was allegedly a quid pro quo for a post-facto clearance granted by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to INX Media, when Chidambaram was the finance minister.

Solicitor general Tushar Mehta argued that there was enough evidence against Chidambaram, linking him to the deal.
