Bengaluru: Chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday announced Karnataka will take steps to remove from school textbooks contents that glorify Tipu Sultan possibly triggering a fresh stand-off with the Opposition Congress which celebrated the ruler of the erstwhile kingdom of Mysuru as a freedom fighter. “Yes. 100%. We are not going to allow anything about Tipu in textbooks,” Yediyurappa said in response to a question at the meet-the-press.

The CM’s assertion at a meetthe-press event followed Primary & Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar calling for a report on a letter submitted by BJP lawmaker Ranjan Appachu asking for deletion of everything about Tipu from school textbooks. “Ranjan has written to us. I have forwarded the letter to the textbook committee, asking them to hold a meeting at the earliest on the subject and called for a report,” the minister told ET.
