A day of twists and turns
The deadline given by the governor to Shiv Sena was 7.30 pm today. After a meeting of its top leaders in the morning, Congress called its Maharashtra leaders to Delhi for further talks. In the meanwhile, Sharad Pawar held a meeting with Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and its party sources it will annouice its support after the Congress did so. The Congress meeting began at 4 pm and it dragged on for a few hours. meanehile reports also said Uddhav talked to Sonia Gandhi over the phone. With deadline looming, the Sena team led by Aaditya Thackeray reached the governor's residence. In the meanwhile, there was a false alarm. Word spread from NCP and Sena sources that the letters of support were sent and TV channels and media sites started flashing that. But after the meeting ended, Congress leaders said there was no letter and support. And that they will hold further talks with Pawar tomorrow. Aaditya Thackeray after meeting the governor said he staked claim, but the governor refused to give him more time. A short while later the governor called the third largest party NCP to go and meet him.

Nawab Malik, Nationalist Congress Party: We will get the letter today and make a final decision by tomorrow after holding discussions with our ally Congress.
Nawab Malik, NCP: We have been called by the Governor, a delegation of our party is meeting him now. We've been called to form the govt. As per the letter given by the Governor we'll hold discussions with Congress & see how a stable govt can be provided to the state.
Ajit Pawar, NCP: At 8:30 pm the Governor called us and asked me to come to meet him. Along with Chhagan Bhujbal, Jayant Patil and others, I am going to meet him. We have no idea as to why did he call us. Governor is an important person so we are going to meet him.

Governor of Maharashtra: Delegation of Shiv Sena met governor and expressed willingness to form govt. However, they couldn't submit requisite letter of support.They submitted letter requesting 3-day extension for submitting letters of support. Governor expressed inability to give further extension.

We told the governor that we're willing to form the govt. We asked him for at least 2 days time but we weren't given time. The claim (to form govt) wasn't denied but the time was. We'll continue to put in efforts to form govt in the state.

Nor is there any clarity on the nature of support. The Shiv Sena team has reached Raj Bhavan ahead of the deadline set by the governor.
