Modi, Rahul, Priyanka, Maya and Yogi to be in Aligarh over next 5 days

Bharatiya Janata Party MP and candidate Satish Gautam is fighting with his back to the wall here amidst vociferous protests against him after he was given a ticket. But he now cites the backing of ‘Raj Palace’ -- the power centre in Aligarh which is the house of former UP CM and Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh.
Gautam’s supporters don’t fail to show a picture of ‘Babuji’ Kalyan Singh blessing Gautam recently after publicly expressing displeasure at his candidature, since the ex-CM felt Gautam did nothing for his home turf, Atrauli.
Gautam’s public meetings begin invariably with an apology on the lines of… “I won’t claim that I completed all works in five years…even those who ruled for 70 years cannot make such a claim, so how can I?” He is not even asking votes for himself but just the “Kamal Ka Nishan” and to make Narendra Modi the PM again. A social media campaign started b y G a u t a m i s a l s o t i t l e d ‘AligarhForNamo’ and BJP is hoping that Modi’s rally in Aligarh on April 14 will turn the tables on the BSP candidate of the alliance, Ajit Baliyan.
Mayawati is also coming to Aligarh on April 14 to pitch for Baliyan who has a strong chance of winning. Congress has pinned its hopes on a former MP, Bajendra Singh. Aligarh’s significance is evident from the fact that Rahul Gandhi will hold a rally in Aligarh on April 15 and Priyanka will do a road show on April 13. A major issue here is the Aligarh Muslim University. Gautam promised to get SC-ST and OBC reservation rolled out in AMU while Baliyan promised status quo and said the government should open another university in Aligarh, but not touch AMU.
Kalyan Singh’s shadow looms large over Aligarh; his son Rajvir Singh is an MP and contestant from the neighbouring Etah while his grandson Sandeep Singh is an MLA from the family’s pocket borough of Atrauli and a minister in the Yogi government.
Kalyan Singh, in fact, got into trouble with the Election Commission by saying outside ‘Raj Palace’ last month that Modi was good for the country, while trying to pacify BJP’s protestors against Gautam’s candidature. Gautam is now pinning his hopes on ‘Babuji’s blessings’
