NEW DELHI: Amid a growing perception that the suspension of Congress MPs has gone against the Modi government and resulted in uniting the Opposition, 30 NDA lawmakers from the Rajya Sabha wrote to Vice-President Hamid Ansari demanding action against those members who are forcing adjournments on the Lalit Modi and Vyapam controversies.

The memorandum, signed by 30 MPs belonging to BJP and its allies, requests the Chairman of Rajya Sabha to take cognizance of their plea and states that Congress members are disrupting the House for over two weeks despite several appeals from the Chair. “Sir, you will appreciate that all members are equal and our rights as members are infringed upon by such disruptions. We want to raise many important issues of public interest on the floor of the House. But disruption and subsequent adjournment is depriving us of this opportunity. We request you to take action as per rules against such members who are disrupting the House proceedings. We are sure you will take necessary steps,” the letter states.

Chandan Mitra, Bimla Kashyap, Chunnibhai Gohel, RN Dudy, VPS Bhadnore, Dilipbhai Pandya and Ajay Sancheti are some of the signatories.

Meanwhile, efforts are on from the Union ministers to get Opposition support for running Parliament from August 10 (Monday) onwards so that some important legislations can be passed. While the GST bill may have to be put off till the winter session of Parliament, the government is still hopeful of passing the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2015, which is now virtually identical to the 2013 Act as the government has accepted most of the suggestions from the Congress and other parties.
