An aggrieved Prime Minister cancelled his rally in Rudrapur and held multiple review meetings in Uttrakhand on the day of the Pulwama attacks on February 14 after learning of the attack, government officials have said after Congress attacked Narendra Modi on Thursday on the issue.

"It was on the way from Corbett to Rudrapur around 4 pm that news of the attack first trickled in. PM Modi was angry about being told late. He then from 4 pm to 4:45 pm held constant review calls and meetings to review the situation," a senior government official said. Officials further said PM was constantly monitoring and reviewing the unfolding situation, which is why his public meeting in Rudrapur kept getting delayed and he decided not to go to Rudrapur despite a huge crowd there. "He eventually decided to address the gathering on the phone around 5:15 pm and wound it up in 5-7 minutes," the government official added.

The PM immediately left for Bareilly via road after that to take a flight back to Delhi from there. "A decision was taken to have another review after an hour. So, PM halted at a rest house in Ramnagar and again reviewed the situation and gave the needful orders. After this second review meeting, PM left for Bareilly by road and then took a flight to Delhi at night," senior government officials said.

PM was in Uttarakhand on 14th February for multiple events. He was to launch developmental works at Jim Corbett National Park as well as inaugurate/launch projects and address a public rally at Rudrapur. "There was a long pending request by the Uttarakhand Government to help promote the state as a tourism destination.

On the afternoon of 14th February, PM Modi announced the launch of 3 projects at Jim Corbett National Park. These projects relate to rescue centre, safari facilities and surveillance systems. He then did a a short shoot for tourism promotion and climate change awareness with Discovery and was heading to Rudrapur for the public meeting," officials said.
