Sonowal pitches for development of monsoon tourism in Assam

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has pitched for development of monsoon tourism in state.

In view of the World Tourism Day, Sonowal launched ‘Amar Alohi’ (our guest) scheme here.

Sonowal said that tourism is an industry which has the potential of giving employment to many. Stating that Assam is full of beauties in the fields of nature, culture, spiritual etc the state can transform itself into potential tourism destination in the world.

Sonowal said that tourists in the state come especially during winter and autumn only, as he emphasised on the need of developing monsoon tourism in the state. He also said that because of extensive use digital tools, development of infrastructure and engaging of brand ambassador have led to the enhanced inflow of tourists both foreign and domestic into Assam.

He also said that for the promotion of tourism, tour operators can play an important role, adding he said that in view of Act East Policy and emergence of Guwahati as the gateway to South East Asian Nations, tourism especially tea tourism, medical tourism and wild life tourism have become a new sensation especially among the people of ASEAN countries for Assam.
