    Telangana crosses 88,000 mark in Covid cases, death toll reaches 674

    HYDERABAD: Telangana on Friday reported 1,921 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the state’s tally to 88,396. More than 65 per cent of those infected are men.

    Officials said nine people had died due to the disease in the 24 hours till Thursday night, taking the death toll due to coronavirus-led complications to 674. The case fatality rate for the state is 0.76 per cent compared with the national average of 1.96 per cent. Of the deceased, 46.13 per cent have died of Covid-19 and 53.87 per cent due to co-morbidities.

    The state said 1,210 people had recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 64,284. The state’s recovery rate is now 72.72 per cent compared with the national average of 70.76 per cent.

    There were 23,438 active Covid-19 cases as of Thursday night, which included 16,439 persons in either home or institutional isolation, where about 84 per cent were asymptomatic.

    The state tested 22,046 samples on Thursday, taking the total tests done in the state to 7,11,196. Results of 1,151 samples were awaited. The number of tests per million people stood at 19,156.

    How come the death %age is so low in Telangana? Are people of the state from a different race or species? Need a satisfactory explanation, as we hardly find much news in papers or in e-media unlike news on othe states.
