New Delhi: Two local BJP leaders, including the brother of the party's state vice-president JPS Rathore, have been charged by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for also trying to extort Rs 1.25 Crore from former BJP MP Swami Chinmayanand in the Shahjahanpur case.

This latest twist in the case came on Tuesday with the SIT zeroing on local BJP leaders DPS Rathore and Ajit Singh. DPS Rathore is the chairman of the district cooperative bank and brother of JPS Rathore who is the BJP's state vice-president. The SIT chief Naveen Arora said both DPS Rathore and Ajit Singh were found present along with the victim girl and her accomplice Sanjay in Dausa, Rajasthan when the police had traced them out in September. The girl had accused Chinmayanand of sexual harassment and recorded videos of the same.

"The girl had handed over some pen drives to Ajit Singh. DPS Rathore and Ajit Singh had advised the girl that she had evidence and police will recover it from her; so it would be better if she hands it over to them. After returning to Shahjahanpur, they thought only they have the videos now and got a copy of the pen drives made and they also got involved in bargaining with Chinmayanand and spoke to him to try to extort Rs 1.25 Cr," Naveen Arora said. He said the two leaders have also been named in the charge-sheet submitted in the extortion case.

The SIT has also charge-sheeted the girl and her accomplices in the extortion case and under the IT Act and submitted a separate charge sheet against Swami Chinmayanand on charges of sexual assault not amounting to rape. The bail applications of Chinmayanand and the girl are expected to be heard by the Allahabad High Court later this month. They have been in jail for over a month now after their arrest.
