UP to hold programmes across state on PM Kisan Nidhi Scheme on Sunday, distribute letters to farmers

    Synopsis

UP, the nation’s most populous state, has the highest number of beneficiaries identified under the scheme at almost 2 crore.

UP govt has also allocated Rs 50,000 for every district for the exercise of identifying beneficiary farmers for the PM Kisan Nidhi scheme.
The Yogi Adityanath government will live telecast all over the state the address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the PM Kisan Nidhi Samman scheme from Gorakhpur on Sunday.

Beneficiary farmers will be invited to these programmes across UP and will be handed over ‘praman patras’ (entitlement letters) with their names and other details to confirm that they have been identified to be a part of the scheme by which they will receive Rs 6,000 every year from the government. It will be a two-hour event with MLAs and other elected leaders addressing people in programmes from 10:30 AM to 11 AM to hand over the letters, followed by the broadcast of the PM’s Mann ki Baat radio programme and then the live telecast of his speech from Gorakhpur from 11:30 AM.

In an order issued by UP Chief Secretary AC Pandey on Thursday, it has been specified that such programmes will be held in every district headquarter, sub-district (Tehsil) headquarter and block headquarter.

UP, the nation’s most populous state, has the highest number of beneficiaries identified under the scheme at almost 2 crore. As many as 23 lakh of them will be receiving Rs 2,000 in their bank accounts on Sunday. Others will get the letters at functions across the state, assuring that the money would come into their accounts by March 31.

“For these programmes, the state agriculture department will provide, from the funds received from the Centre, Rs 10,000 for every block and Rs 25,000 for every district headquarter. Rs 15,000 will be provided for the programme in every Tehsil,” the order, accessed by ET, says. Given there are about 300 tehsils, 800-odd blocks and 75 districts in UP, the government could be spending nearly Rs 1.5 crore on this exercise, as per a rough calculation by ET. Further, the UP government has also allocated Rs 50,000 for every district for the exercise of identifying beneficiary farmers for the PM Kisan Nidhi scheme.

After ignoring acute rural distress for more than four years , Modiji has woken up . But he has provided an inadequate Rs 6000 per family per year , when average farmer household debt is Rs 47000. As per NABARD survey, there are 14.6 crores Farmers in the country, out of which 12.6 crores are Small and Marginal Farmers. Their average annual income is Rs 119878 . The income support of Rs 6000 works out to 5 percent only , which is inadequate. Further, the KSNS does nothing for landless labour, tenant farmers and sharecroppers. Modiji is no where near fulfilling his pronto double farmer’s income by 2022. Moreover, the Budget for MGNREGA in the coming fiscal has been fixed at 60000 crore, lower than the total expenditure of 61084 crores in 2018-19. Lower allocation doesn’t auger well for the scheme, which is already beset by a near stagnation in wages.
