
New Delhi: Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu has nominated new members to various department-related standing committees of Parliament. Jyotiraditya Scindia is now a member of the HRD panel, Digvijaya Singh of Urban Development, Sharad Pawar of Defence, Mallikarjun Kharge of Commerce and former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi of External Affairs panel.
BJP member Vinay Sahasrabuddhe will head the HRD standing committee. He will replace outgoing member Satyanarain Jatiya. Former deputy chairperson of Rajya Sabha Harivansh will be a member of the Agriculture committee and former deputy Speaker Thambidurai will be in HRD.
Even those members who will take oath in the forthcoming monsoon session have been assigned to various committees. Former prime minister Deve Gowda will be a member of the Railways committee, TMC leader Dinesh Trivedi of Home Affairs and T Siva (DMK) of Transport, Tourism and Culture.
However, these members can participate in meetings only after they have taken oath.
The list of new appointments comprises 65 names as some of the members had not been assigned panels earlier. Others in the new list include: Bhubaneswar Kalita and GK Vasan (HRD), Priyanka Chaturvedi and Deepak Prakash (Commerce), KTS Tulsi, Sudhanshu Trivedi and Nabam Rebia (Energy), Udayan Raje Bhonsle and Narhari Amin (Railways), Prem Chand Gupta, Rajeev Satav (Defence) and KC Venugopal (Transport, Tourism and Culture).
