We’ve done more work in 100 days than Akhilesh Yadav in 5 Years: UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya
"The former government left for us a situation of complete decimation of law and order in UP and criminals were sheltered by them. But unlike them, we have made arrests," Maurya said.
The Yogi Government is completing 100 days. What would you say are your biggest achievements?
Our achievements are so many that I would struggle to list out all. We are bringing out a detailed document which will be released by the CM and myself to highlight how we have done more work in the last 100 days that the Akhilesh Yadav government could not do even in its full term of five years. UP is feeling the transformation and change.
We have waived off farmer loans of Rs 36,500 crore – the biggest loan waiver given as relief to farmers by any state. We have done record wheat procurement in 100 days which Akhilesh could never achieve in his tenure. There is 18-20-24 hour electricity in UP right now in villages, tehsils and district headquarters respectively. The anti-romeo squads have brought out a sense of security.
Has law and order broken down in UP? Saharanpur was up in flames for a month…
In incidents like Saharanpur, it is very apparent that our political opponents are creating trouble there. Their role will be exposed after an ongoing investigation in the Saharanpur matter. Right now, Saharanpur is completely at peace and harmony has been reinstated there. In fact, in most law and order incidents that have happened in the state have our political opponents playing a hand or criminal elements involved with them.
I won’t say that law and order has broken down. There are some isolated incidents. The former government left for us a situation of complete decimation of law and order in UP and criminals were sheltered by them. But unlike them, we have made arrests. No one, however big or influential, has been spared. Our political opponents will keep on saying things against us but if you go out and speak to the public, you will realise that they feel more secure and will tell you the law and order has improved. The criminals and land grabbers are running in fear.
Don’t the incidents in Saharanpur show that the Dalits are angry with BJP?
This is simply not true. A tall Dalit leader from Kanpur, UP – Ramnath Kovind – has been selected as the presidential nominee by the Narendra Modi government. It is an issue of great pride for Dalits of the country and especially of UP that one amongst them is certain to become the next president of the country. We won all SC/ST reserved seats in the recent assembly polls. You will see that we will sweep all 80 seats in UP in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
UP missed the target of making all roads in UP pothole free by June 15.
I am also the PWD minister and must tell you that the UP government had a task of filling up potholes on as many as 1.21 lakh kilometres of roads. This was the legacy left for us by the Akhilesh Yadav government. PWD had its share of filling up potholes on 85,000 km of the total target and PWD achieved 82% of its target. Overall, the state achieved 63% of the total target. I would term even this as a historic achievement – it is not a mean task to repair over 76,000-km roads in three months. The work is on and we will soon complete it.
During the elections, you had spoken a lot on exposing scams of the SP government…
We will not spare any wrong-doing but hum koi badle ki bhavna se bhi kaam nahin karenge (we will not work with a sense of revenge). A CBI probe has already been recommended in the Gomti River Front project launched by the SP government, which seems to be a big scam. A probe is on into the Waqf land matter and Rs 1,200 crore spent by the SP government on building boundary walls around graveyards. You will soon hear more.
