Synopsis

Disney is restructuring its businesses and investments in Star India. This includes cutting back on some of the acquisition costs related to syndication deals, films, and sports-broadcast rights. It is said the company is planning to route those investments in Disney+ Hotstar. Will Disney’s global strategy to focus primarily on digital work in India?

When Uday Shankar was named the CEO of Star India back in 2007, the announcement came as a surprise to many. Thirteen years later, he is known as the man who transformed the company from a floundering INR1,600-crore network to an INR18,000-crore behemoth. Shankar’s knack for abrasive decisions and supporting innovative ideas helped Star rise. He broke the mould with shows like Satyamev Jayate, and the aggression was visible with the acquisition
