To check dust due to continuous construction work, Noida gets road project deadline

Construction waste can be seen along several service lanes, most of which are not paved. Officials said that once the Noida Authority takes up the road project, pavements would be built and such waste would be removed. The pavements would then be grass-lined to absorb dust.

NOIDA: The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has set a deadline of March 2020 for the Noida Authority to finish landscaping along the dusty roads in the 7x sectors of the city.

Dust pollution in the 70 series sectors is on a record high throughout the year because of continuous construction work that goes in the area.

Construction waste can be seen along several service lanes, most of which are not paved. Officials said that once the Noida Authority takes up the road project, pavements would be built and such waste would be removed. The pavements would then be grass-lined to absorb dust.

The regional officer of UPPCB, Anil Singh, said: “We have been given an action plan by the Noida Authority after we demanded that steps to control dust in the area be taken at the earliest. The Noida Authority has agreed to complete the road work by March next year.” The sectors where pavements would be constructed are – 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 74, 75, 76, 77 and 78. The approximate length of roads that would be covered under the project is 18 km, officials said.

“Construction and grass work in these areas are a priority because it is one of the dustiest places in Noida at present. When the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) regulations were in place after Diwali this year, fines of over Rs 17 lakh had been imposed for pollution control rule violation in the locality. On a daily basis, six tankers of water are used twice to settle dust in these sectors,” Singh added.

While 7x sectors are among the most polluted places in Gautam Budh Nagar district Noida Extension, in Greater Noida, is a close second. Most places in Noida Extension are also under construction.
