BookMyShow revenues up 30% to Rs 78 crore in Q1-FY17; sold more than 30 million tickets

India's largest online entertainment ticketing platform BookMyShow posted a 30% increase in its revenues to Rs 78 crore for the first quarter of the financial year FY17, from Rs 60 crore revenue in the corresponding quarter last year.

This was disclosed by BookMyShow's largest investor Network18 in its earnings results, although it didn't share any information on BookMyShow's profit or loss numbers for the quarter.

During the quarter, BookMyShow sold more than 30 million tickets, its highest ever quarterly ticket sales in the company's history and up 38% from 22 million tickets sold in the preceding quarter.

The online entertainment ticketing service also noted that it sold 4.93 million tickets of Jungle Book movie, accounting for 40% of movie admits and 45% of its revenues.

Last week, BookMyShow raised Rs 550 crore funding led by US based growth fund Stripes Group in one of largest rounds of funding for an Internet company this year. Network18 said that it invested Rs 191 crore in the round and continues to be the largest shareholder in the company.

The round also saw the participation from other existing investors Accel Partners, and SAIF Partners, and valued the company at more than Rs 3,000 crore.

"We will continue to invest in enhancing user experience through our data analytics engine , and building contextual entertainment content including videos, reviews, discovery," said Ashish Hemrajani, CEO and co-founder, BookMyShow.

BookMyShow currently gets 60% revenue from movie ticketing, and the rest 40% comes from sports, live shows and plays. The company recorded average pageviews of 2.5 billion per month during the financial quarter, a 42% sequential growth from 1.8 billion in Q4 FY16.
