Google to host live contest for early stage startup; joins Startup India chorus

Technology giant Google has also joined the chorus of the Start-up India, Stand-up India. The company will hold a live content award a early stage start-up.

NEW DELHI: Technology giant Google has also joined the chorus of the Start-up India, Stand-up India. The company will hold a live content award a early stage start-up during the January 16 event where the government will spell out its action plan for start-ups.

According to a release by the company, five startups have already been shortlisted and in the next two days people are being invited to vote for their favorite startup from among the five. The Top three startups from these votes will receive an invite to join the next Google Launchpad Week and one final winner will be selected during the event by a panel comprising of key venture capitalists, google global leaders and government representatives who will hear the pitches live. The winner will get $100,000 worth of Google cloud credits and will also be eligible for consideration to the Launchpad Accelerator Program in July 2016.

Rajan Anandan, VP & Managing Director, Google South East Asia & India said, "With the Startup India Stand up India event, the Government of India has shown great foresight in providing a platform to the Startups in the country to engage industry leaders and successful entrepreneurs to come together and drive the spirit of entrepreneurship forward in the country."

The five short-listed start-ups are Reap Benefit, a social enterprise which aims to solve local environment and civic problems; Cardiac Design Labs, a healthcare monitoring firm; Guru-G which converts existing content into adaptive teaching packs; SlamdunQ, which develops application for wearables and Sbalabs Pvt. Ltd; which re-purposes pollution's carbon for use in the printing industry.

The event slated for Saturday will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi detailing the action plan under their mission of Stand up India, Start up India. A host of global as well as Indian entrepreneurs, investors and experts are expected to be present during the event.
