Motorola has unveiled its first foldable smartphone Motorola Razr (2019), or simply, the Motorola Razr

The Lenovo-owned smartphone brand on Thursday unveiled the reinvention of its legendary flip phone in the form of a foldable smartphone.

The new smartphone features a flexible screen that folds completely in half to give it the traditional clamshell look. Motorola has also added a secondary screen on the front, which it calls a Quick View external display.

There are two displays on the phone. The main one measures 6.2-inches and uses a 2142 x 876 pOLED display with an aspect ratio of 21:9. Motorola calls this the FlexView display.

In the folded state, the consumers can access the secondary 2.7-inch (600x800 pixels) Quick View display that can be used to take selfies, view notifications, control music playback, and more.

Chipset: The new Razr uses a Snapdragon 710 chipset, which isn't the fastest and the most powerful chipset around. But Motorola says it should give enough performance to ensure smooth user experience. The Razr also supports eSIM only - no physical SIM cards.

RAM and storage: The new Razr comes as standard with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. There's no expandable storage though.

Rear Camera: There's only one camera at the back that also acts as a selfie camera when folded. It's a 16-megapixel sensor with F1.7 lens and dual pixel autofocus.

Front Camera: On top of the main display, there's a 5-megapixel selfie camera.

World's first foldable phone

A relatively small Chinese OEM Royole Corporation launched FlexPai in July, the world's first commercially available true foldable phone, beating the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X to the market.

The Royole FlexPai is, at its core, a small tablet with a 7.8-inch screen that can fold in half—the latter feature makes it a unique and arguably the only reason for existence. The reason the screen is able to bend without damage is because it’s crafted out of plastic instead of glass.
