Mahindra Ecole Centrale, an engineering college based in Hyderabad launched its supercomputer lab today. The lab is expected to address the requirements for faster computing performance and will provide a solid platform for deep learning and analytics, and multi-disciplinary engineering simulations, said the university in a press release.

The college is a collaboration between Mahindra Educational Institutions, a subsidiary of Mahindra Group’s IT venture, Tech Mahindra, and Ecole Centrale Paris, a French science and engineering institute.

“To be a success in today’s rapidly evolving technological scenario, it is imperative that we expose our students with the latest technological advancements and get them to work on the best of products available globally. The MEC Supercomputer Lab comprises of the DGX-1 supercomputer platform that includes a complex stack of components and software including AI Deep Learning frameworks, libraries and drivers. Our students will be trained on this platform that forms the base for most globally recognized initiatives”, said Yajulu Medury, director of the college.

The lab can do high intensity computations for artificial intelligence (AI) applications and complex simulations in physical sciences and engineering - including fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, electromagnetics, integrated and optimized engineering design, molecular physics and related fields, said the release.

The number of servers in the lab can also be scaled up. The supercomputer laboratory houses two of MEC’s centres of Excellence: artificial intelligence and 3D-experience.

A Dassault-Systemes based 3D-experience package is also being installed in the lab. This package is an overlay on a suite of software that includes CATIA, DELPHI and other related modules, and facilitates augmented realityvirtual reality based immersive experience, said the release.
