A challenge for app companies to build Chinese rivals
The new challenge will look at local apps that can potentially replace banned Chinese apps such as TikTok, CamScanner, WeTransfer and UC Browser. According to a top government official, Minister for Electronics and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad, directed the ministry to initiate the grand challenge on Wednesday and work on the proposal has already started.
NEW DELHI/MUMBAI: The government will launch a programme to give incentives for Indian companies to build applications for social media, chats, email services and web browser, in order to create a local app ecosystem that will replace banned Chinese apps, people familiar with the development said.The plan to launch a grand challenge for these new apps is based on its success in building a rival to US video conferencing app Zoom. It has
