Reliance Jio was the only Big 3 telco to further consolidate its lead over the two older carriers – Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea – on AGR. Jio’s AGR rose 6.75% quarter-on-quarter to Rs 11,528.95 crore in the July-September period. By contrast, Airtel and Vodafone Idea reported 2.32% and 6.86% sequential falls in their September quarter AGR to Rs 7,295.03 crore and Rs 6,260.22 crore respectively.
AGR Ruling: RailTel Corporation moves Supreme Court
RailTel Corporation has moved the Supreme Court, seeking a modification or a clarification that its Oct 24 order on adjusted gross revenue pertains only to access service provider licence holders such as telcos, and not to all licence holders for internet service and national long distance telephone service.
What Supreme Court’s decision could mean for telcos
If the verdict doesn’t go in telcos’ favour, they will have to pay Rs 1.47 lakh crore of licence fees (over Rs 92,000 crore), spectrum usage charge (SUC), interest and penalties by January 23. Vodafone Idea and Airtel will be the worst hit, with dues of over Rs 53,000 crore and Rs 35,500 crore, respectively.
