  • A team of Chinese scientists has isolated several antibodies that it says are "extremely effective" at blocking the ability of the new coronavirus to enter cells, which eventually could be helpful in treating or preventing COVID-19.

    The exclusion from official data of people infected but without symptoms has come up repeatedly since the coronavirus emerged in Wuhan.

    Mainland China reported a drop in new coronavirus infections for a fourth day as imported cases fell, while authorities shut the borders to foreign travellers and drastically slashed the number of international flights.

    "If you had mild respiratory symptoms from COVID-19 and were staying at home so as not to infect people, extend your quarantine for another two weeks after recovery to ensure that you don't infect other people," suggested study co-author Lixin Xie from the Chinese PLA General Hospital in Beijing.

    China will share its data related to the novel coronavirus pandemic with the US and the country will learn from Beijing's experience, President Donald Trump has said, a day after he held an hour-long conversation with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

    China has said the domestic passenger flights will resume operations in the coronavirus epicentre Hubei province, except for its capital Wuhan, from Sunday as part of a plan to ease lockdown in the region after it reported zero COVID-19 cases for several days.

    BYD, founded as a mobile-phone battery maker, has been growing by expanding into new businesses over the past two decades. The company started car manufacturing in 2003 and rolled out its first vehicles powered by lithium-iron-phosphate batteries in 2006.

    Indian missions in these three countries have been tasked to immediately identifying possible areas of cooperation and engage with relevant authorities for procurement of medical equipment and technology. The move comes as India saw rapid increase in number of positive coronavirus cases in the last few days.

    China has made major strides in its battle against the virus, prompting President Xi Jinping to visit Wuhan, the central city at the heart of the global epidemic, on Tuesday and declare that it has "basically curbed" the spread of the disease.

    China, which is developing a vaccine for the deadly novel coronavirus, plans to conduct additional trials in other countries. The first stage clinical trial for the vaccine was started in Wuhan on March 16 after authorities approved.

    China, where the epidemic began in December, appears to now face a greater threat of new infections from outside its borders as it continues to slow the spread of the virus domestically. Over a hundred countries have reported infections.

    These statements were issued by senior Pakistan government officials. Pakistan, in return, received an eight-member medical expert team from China over the weekend to assist Islamabad to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
