  • The Uddhav Thackeray-led government is likely to prove its majority in the Maharashtra assembly on Saturday itself, well ahead of the December 3 deadline.

The veteran, who terms himself as the ‘Voice of Uttarakhand’ on his Facebook page, made light of not fighting the polls saying people were only concerned about voting for Modi and not any candidate. The reward for his discipline and perseverance finally came this September when he was chosen for the Governor’s post in Maharashtra, a month before the state elections.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed that a floor test for Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to prove his majority in the Assembly be conducted on Wednesday. Fadnavis was sworn in as chief minister and NCP's Ajit Pawar as his deputy by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at a hush hush ceremony in Raj Bhavan early Saturday morning.

Addressing reporters in Karad town of neighbouring Satara district, Sharad Pawar reiterated that the decision of aligning with the BJP was of his nephew Ajit Pawar and not the NCP. Asked whether the NCP, Cong and Sena will form govt in the state, he said, "There is not an iota of doubt that the govt (of the combine) will be formed in Maharashtra."

Bhagat Singh Koshyari has called a special session of the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday where floor test will be conducted after pro-tem speaker administers oath to the 288 newly-elected members

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar told the top court that "the quarrel in the family will be resolved soon". A bench of Justices N V Ramana, Ashok Bhushan and Sanjiv Khanna was told by a senior advocate, representing Ajit Pawar, that the letter of support given to Governor for govt formation along with the BJP is "factually and legally correct".

Eight-time Wadala MLA Kolambkar was one of the candidates recommended for the post to the governor. "The governor has administered oath to Kolambkar as pro-tem speaker of the assembly. Kolambkar will administer oath to remaining 287 MLAs during the assembly session," said an official from Raj Bhavan.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed that the floor test for Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to prove his majority in the Maharashtra Assembly be conducted on Wednesday. It also directed Governor Koshyari to ensure that all elected members of the House are sworn in on Wednesday itself. SC also said that the entire proceedings have to be telecast live.

The apex court also directed Governor Koshyari to ensure that all elected members of the House are sworn in on Wednesday itself. The entire exercise has to be completed by 5 pm.

Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP has filed a plea against Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari's decision to swear in BJP leader Fadnavis as chief minister and NCP's Ajit Pawar as deputy chief minister. The Centre told a bench comprising Justices N V Ramana, Ashok Bhushan and Sanjiv Khanna that the governor had in absolute discretion invited the largest party to form government on November 23.
