Bill on unauthorised colonies in Lok Sabha
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri introduced the NCT of Delhi (Recognition of Property Rights of Residents in Unauthorised Colonies) Bill, 2019 in the House. The proposal to grant ownership rights is applicable to 1,797 identified unauthorised colonies spread over 175 square-km of the national capital inhabited by people from lower income groups.

A political masterstroke as many see it, the Union Cabinet had on Wednesday approved a bill which provides a legal framework to grant ownership rights to the people living in unauthorised colonies in the city, a move that will benefit 40 to 50 lakh people.
