India’s economy seems to be shaking off a slump

The services index rose to the highest level in five months in December on improving new work orders. The Markit India Services PMI index climbed to 53.3 from 52.7 in November, helping post a strong end to the calendar year. India’s manufacturing PMI also rose — to 52.7 from 51.2 a month ago — boosted by the fastest increase in new orders since July.

  • India produced more than 7,00,000 tonnes of shrimp in 2019 and exported more than 6,20,000 tonnes to the United States, European Union, Japan and China. The production comes from around 1,70,000 ha of shrimp farms along the country’s coast, with Andhra Pradesh contributing a major share — of more than 4,00,000 tonnes.
