Counting for 81 Jharkhand Assembly seats today
Jharkhand is the third BJP-ruled state after Haryana and Maharashtra that went to polls this year. In Jharkhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party is up against the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance which includes Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The counting of votes for the 81-seat state Assembly began at 8 AM on Monday in all district headquarters.

While senior party leaders Alamgir Alam, Rameshwar Oraon, who is also the state Congress president, and Rajendra Prasad Singh are three confirmed names, the party is yet to finalise the fourth name, party insiders said.

The alliance, which has won 47 seats in the 81-member house in the November-December Assembly election, has also secured support of former ally, the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik. Hemant Soren was elected leader of the alliance at a meeting with the alliance MLAs at the residence of his father and JMM President Shibu Soren on Tuesday night.

If the Congress-JMM alliance led by Heman Soren ends up on the higher range of that prediction, it would mean they would comfortably cross the majority in the 81-seat Assembly and form the next government. The lower range for them would see a hung house, with the BJP led by chief minister Raghubar Das in with a chance of coming to power again.
Jharkhand polls: Congress releases final list of 3 candidates
Congress president Sonia Gandhi approved the candidature of Yogendra Baitha from Simaria (SC) seat, Basudev Verma from Bagodar, and Sweta Singh from Bokaro replacing Sanjay Singh, a party statement said. With this, the Congress has named candidates on the 31 seats it is contesting in the polls to the 81-member Assembly.
