We will win maximum number of seats in Karnataka bypolls, says BJP

"I will not speak anything about the bypoll results now. You will get to know on December 9. We will win with a lead of 25,000-30,000 votes in most of the constituencies and according to our estimate, we are confident of winning all the 15 seats," Karnataka CM Yediyurappa told reporters. He further added that people have voted for the party with this in mind.

    In Karnataka, today's bypolls will decide the future of the BS Yediyurappa government which currently has 105 legislators and one independent MLA's support in the 225 member strong Assembly.

    The by-elections are being held to fill the vacancies caused by the disqualification of 17 rebel Congress and JD(S) MLAs, whose rebellion led to the collapse of the H D Kumaraswamy-led coalition government in July and paved the way for the BJP to come to power. The BJP needs to win at least six of the 15 seats to remain in majority in the 225-member assembly.

    By-elections will be held in 15 constituencies. BJP has fielded disqualified MLAs in 13 and has given tickets to party leaders in the remaining two seats. The Congress is contesting in all 15 constituencies and the JD(S) candidates are in the fray in 12 seats. Two rebels who were formerly with the BJP are contesting independently.

    Turnout in other constituencies are: Athani- 40.89 per cent, Kagwad- 37.72, Gokak- 37.37, Hirekerur- 38.63, Ranebennur- 36.09, Vijayanagara- 34.95, Chikkaballapur- 39.03, K R Puram- 22.23, Yeshwanthpura- 27.29, Mahalakshi layout- 22.71, Hoskote- 33.24, K R Pete- 39.47, and Hunsur- 38.2, officials said.

    In a last-ditch effort to win the bypolls in Karnataka, BJP is playing the cast card. Asking voters from the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community to back BS Yediyurappa. A week ago, the CM drew criticism when he asked Veerashaiva-Lingayat voters in Gokak constituency to vote for the BJP.

    Responding during the Question Hour, Angadi said the project has been pending due to non-cooperation from the previous Congress-JDS led state government. The B S Yediyurappa government in Karnataka has submitted a revised detailed project report (DPR) that proposes around 55-odd suburban railway stations covering a distance of about 150 km.

    Several senior Congress leaders had taken a backseat in campaigning, giving an impression that the party’s victory or loss would be the sole responsibility of the former CM. But with speculations of the coming together of the former allies once again, hopes have sprouted among some leaders of giving a shot at the CM’s post in the event the BJP was reduced to a minority.
