He is on leave from Cornell University, where he is the C. Marks Professor of International Studies and Professor of Economics. Till July 2012, he served as the Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India. He is also the Jury Chair for the Infosys Prize for the Social Sciences. Kaushik Basu is the President-elect of the International Economic Association, and will take over as President in 2017.
