  • Around a dozen BJP MLAs and a Rajya Sabha MP from the state are learnt to be negotiating with leaders of the ruling trio for a possible crossover by deserting their party, according to some members of the ruling coalition. Majority of the prospective defectors are BJP MLAs who crossed over from NCP and Congress just before the assembly elections.

Thackeray heard the entire proposals of the 34 decisions in a four-hour meeting but did not order a stay, people aware of the development said. “We took a review of the last Cabinet decisions (and) what is the current situation,” said minister Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena. “We discussed the obstacles involved in implementing the decisions.”

BJP has lost power in a politically significant state like Maharashtra. And, in the bigger picture, it has to strike a working relationship with more Opposition-ruled states as compared to, say, two years ago.

The multi-state co-operative bank has been under the RBI restriction since September 23, after it had found financial irregularities, including huge under-reporting of loans and non-performing assets to real estate developer HDIL to the tune of Rs 6,500 crore using hundreds of dummy accounts.

Maharashtra's Maha Vikas Aghadi government will ascertain if mega-projects like the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train can be shelved in view of a staggering Rs 6.71 lakh crore debt burden on the state, Minister Jayant Patil said here on Tuesday.

"Modi had offered me to work together. I told him that our personal relations are very good and they will remain that way but it is not possible for me to work together," Pawar said. Pawar dismissed reports that Modi government offered to make him India's President. "But there surely was an offer to make Supriya (Sule) a minister in the Modi-led cabinet," he added.

In five successive reductions so far in 2019, the Reserve Bank of India has cut interest rates by a cumulative 135 basis points since February in an attempt to bolster growth and also liquidity in the financial system. With no reduction today, the cumulative decrease in repo rate stands at which banks borrow from it—remains unchanged at 5.15%.

For the opposition Congress it is all too apparent as its units have been disbanded and the party has been functioning under Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Chavda for quite some time now. Congress members say the new party structure will be formed after December 15.
