India Inc admires SC for unanimous verdict on Ayodhya dispute
In a unanimous verdict, the Supreme Court's five-judge bench asked the government to allot a five-acre plot in a "prominent" location in the holy town of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh for constructing a new mosque. The disputed 2.77-acre plot will for now remain with a central government receiver, who will hand it over to a government-created trust.
Leaders across parties take to twitter to hail Ayodhya verdict
Surprisingly, most BJP leaders did not personally tweet on the judgment, but retweeted the statements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the verdict. Talking to reporters, he said the BJP should not misuse the provision of "caretaker" government and remain in power in Maharashtra, where there is an impasse over the next dispensation. After a 15-day acrimonious verbal spat with ally Shiv Sena, Devendra Fadnavis submitted his resignation to governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Fadnavis is to continue till an alternate arrangement is made. Addressing a news conference, Fadnavis said that it was hurtful and shocking that the Sena had not cooperated.
Shiv Sena to start action if Fadnavis stakes claim unilaterally
In the eventuality of Fadnavis forming a government without resolving issues with Sena, the first test will come during election of the assembly Speaker. If Fadnavis shies away from forming a government, a Sena delegation would revisit the governor to “press for its demand that the second-largest party be invited to form the govt,” the source said.
BJP delegation to meet Maharashtra Governor today
However, as per news wire agency PTI, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is not a part of the delegation despite being elected as BJP Legislative Party leader in Maharashtra. So, it is quite possible that the BJP will not stake claim to form the government in the meeting. Incidentally, yesterday a BJP leader said that there will be "good news any moment".
Is Nitin Gadkari being sidelined by BJP?
Gadkari did not share a stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s in Nashik last month to mark the end of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s statewide campaign yatra. The 25 rallies that Gadkari held have been within the Vidarbha region.
Shiv Sena asks governor to invite it to form government
Sena leaders met the governor ahead of Congress-NCP delegation’s audience with him on Tuesday to urge him to expedite process of ministry formation as Maharashtra had several issues which needed the attention of an elected government. A day after the Pawar-Sonia meeting in Delhi, NCP also asked Sena to start the process of disengaging from BJP.
