  • During Question Hour in Lok Sabha, when Gandhi asked a question related to establishment of medical colleges, Vardhan said before giving the answer, he would like to make a statement on the Congress leader's recent comment on the prime minister. Vardhan said he "condemns in no uncertain words" the "outlandish" remarks of Gandhi.

    "A revised demand assessment was made and now the demand is for 1.12 crore houses. I am sure we can meet that in terms of sanctioning in the next month or so," Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said during the Question Hour in the Upper House.

    "As a result of several measures taken by the government, the time taken for examination of patent applications has been brought down from 72 months in 2014-15 to around 24-36 months at present," he said during Question Hour.

    Speaking during the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur said in spite of a global contraction in FDI inflows, FDI into India have significantly improved over the past decade to USD 62 billion, which accounts for 2.37 per cent of GDP in 2018-19 fiscal.

    Bank frauds have sharply come down on an annual basis to Rs 5,244 crore in the first three quarters of this fiscal on account of improved detection and reporting, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur said in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

    As soon as the House took up Question Hour, members raised slogans against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

    The reply came after MPs from Telangana and Odisha complained during Question Hour that their states were not getting the share of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Integrated Goods and Service Tax (IGST). "All due GST compensation will be given to states in two instalments," Thakur, union minister of state for finance, said.

    Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said self-reliance in defence production to meet the requirement of the armed forces was imperative from both strategic and economic perspectives. "Several steps have been taken to promote defence exports, including reduction in the time taken for issuing export authorisations," he said during the Question Hour.

    The minister said considering the future of mining industry, the National Mineral Exploration Trust has been constituted under Section 9(C) of the MMDR Act for taking up detailed and regional exploration and studies for mineral development.

    In response to remarks on demonetisation and the job cuts it caused these years, Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar said the government is implementing the Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979 to mitigate hardships caused by migration.

    The minister said before taking any decision on the issue of formulation of menopause policy for women employees in government and private sectors, consultations with stakeholders and experts and careful consideration of all aspects of the matter is required.

    Responding during Question Hour, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said the government has brought a lot of "sanity" to the working of eight areas of IPR, be it patent, copyright or trademark.
