Last week's jobs report was a desperately needed bright spot for the Republican president as a growing set of polls show him trailing Joe Biden less than five months before Election Day. While Joe Biden has formally clinched the Democrats' presidential nomination and begun to venture out beyond his basement home studio amid competing national crises, the 2020 election continues to be all about Trump.

With five months until the election, Trump has time to solidify his standing. But some Republicans fear voters are simply worn out by Trump.

Joe Biden, 77, on Friday night took his tally of pledged delegates over the halfway mark of 1,991 from a total of 3,979, thus becoming eligible to earn the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

The list of participating nations includes the US, Germany, UK, Japan, Australia, Canada, Sweden, Norway, as well as members of the European parliament.

US President Donald Trump on Monday won the Iowa Caucus with the members of his Republican party standing solidly behind him.

Joe Biden is on the cusp of formally securing the Democratic presidential nomination after winning hundreds more delegates in primary contests that tested the nation's ability to run elections while balancing a pandemic and sweeping social unrest.

Biden and President Donald Trump easily swept their respective primary contests that ranged from Maryland to Montana and featured the night's biggest prize: Pennsylvania.

The largest day of balloting since the pandemic began will serve as a dry run for the Nov. 3 general election, offering a glimpse of the challenges ahead on a national scale if that vote is conducted under a lingering threat from COVID-19.

China is the post-pandemic issue Trump is using to boost his chances in an election year. The trade and tariff war with China he triggered last year was Trump's stepping stone in an election year once Covid-19 struck and the dragon country became the source of the outbreak.

It's a defining moment for the political parties heading toward the election and one that will affect the livelihoods of countless Americans suddenly dependent on the federal government. Billions in state aid, jobless benefits and health resources are at stake.

As the economy faces a once-in-a-century recession, with more than 38 million people out of work, Trump is increasingly talking up a future recovery that probably won't materialize until after the November election.
