Sunil Bharti Mittal is the Chairman and founder of Bharti Enterprises - a conglomerate having interests spanning in telecom, financial services, retail, and agri-products, realty. He has given India its leader in telecom industry - Airtel. Mittal, who started out selling bicycle parts, saw an opportunity in telecom in the mid-1990s as India opened up to the private sector. Bharti began with operation of a mobile network in Delhi.
Mittal is the second of three sons of a politician, Sat Pal Mittal, member of Parliament from Ludhiana. He is married and has three children. A yoga and golf enthusiast, Mittal has been recognized for his outstanding contribution in the area of education for the underprivileged through Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Bharti Group.
