    The effort comes after recent move by MeitY and Niti to develop and test similar apps to track Covid path.

    It found that these were not real customers but bots and could have resulted in revenue loss on account of advertising fraud — forcing a company to pay websites carrying its advertisements based on the number of clicks they attract.

    Psychologists and therapists, who are mostly consulting through online chats as well as audio and video calls, say there has been a 20-30% surge in professionals seeking counselling and therapy online over the past two weeks. Many offline clinics, too, are switching to online therapy. As offline clinics shut in the wake of the outbreak, the online business is seeing an uptick.

    Social media firm LocalCircles in a survey claimed that around 35 per cent of consumers have said they are not getting essential goods from retail stores as well as e-commerce companies at the time of lockdown.

    Some map-based applications that trace the path of the virus across the globe could end up infecting a user’s phone with a virus, the digital kind that is. Spam documents that offer information about the virus through emails and message attachments are also increasing, cyber security firms said.

    The system will get an alert, if geofencing is violated by the quarantined person, Prof Kamal Jain from the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Roorkee, said. In case the GPS data is not received, the location will be obtained automatically through the triangulation of mobile towers.

    Compared to January 2020, social media downloads on iOS and Google Play during the lockdown in India in the first week starting March 22 went up 20%, exceeding over 49 million new downloads, the mobile and data analytics company said.

    The coronavirus-fed boom has essentially forced Zoom to publicly acknowledge and address problems on a vastly shorter timetable than older companies like Facebook. Now attorneys general in several states are scrutinizing Zoom’s privacy and security practices even as the company has publicly committed to improving them.
