  • The event, to take place from 22 February to 1 March, 2020, was announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with union Minister for Human Resources and Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju and Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan.

"We observe with dismay that in the name of student politics, a disruptive far-left agenda is being pursued. The recent turn of events in campuses from JNU to Jamia, from AMU to Jadavpur alarms us to the deteriorating academic environment due to the shenanigans of a small coterie of left-wing activists," the academicians wrote to the prime minister.

Protest has its own romance. The problem is that it has been tried before and invariably led to disenchantment and subsequent anger. "I am truly delighted to announce that the first edition of the Khelo India University Games will be held in Bhubaneswar. I am sure the true spirit of sportsmanship will be showcased during this event," Patnaik said at the launch of the Games, in the presence of sports minister Kiren Rijiju.

The Centre uploaded the gazette notification for the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act, ensuring the Act comes into play with immediate effect. This has been seen as a defiant move by the government. PM Modi launched the counter campaign where he stated, #IndiaSupportsCAA as CAA is about giving citizenship to persecuted refugees & not denying it.

The high court directive came while disposing a PIL that advocate Amit Sahni had filed seeking a direction to the Delhi Police Commissioner to lift restrictions on the Kalindi Kunj-Shaheen Bagh stretch and Okhla underpass, which were closed on December 15, 2019, following the protests against CAA.

Demands for holding Delhi Police Chief Amulya Patnaik accountable for keeping police as "bystanders" during the attacks, and the removal of JNU Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar for failing to "protect" the dignity of the institute grew louder.
