  • The Vishva Hindu Parishad is set to felicitate the entire legal team that fought for Ayodhya case in the court that ultimately won themvictory to build Ram Lalla temple at the disputed site. The team was led by senior Supreme Court lawyer K. Parasaran. The VHP has also invited lawyers who fought the case in the high court and lower court.

    Addressing a press conference here, VHP working president Alok Kumar said the SC order is a "decisive step towards construction of grand Ram temple in Ayodhya". The VHP, he said, expects the central government to take speedy steps on the directions issued by the Supreme Court, including creation of a trust to build the temple.

    The development comes as the Supreme Court asked the Centre to set up a trust within three months for the construction of the temple. Members of VHP’s Ayodhya unit told ET that the Centre could ask Mahant Nritya Gopal Das to be part of the trust.

    Rape accusations against saffron-robed former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand and a life sentence for expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar for the 2017 rape of a minor in Unnao brought the law and order situation in the state into sharp focus.     In the early hours of the day, life went on as normal in different parts of the city with school children and morning walkers taking to the streets and shops and businesses opening at their usual time. This year the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has decided against observing 'Shaurya Diwas'.

    Shia Waqf Board chairman Wasim Rizvi accused AIMPLB of trying to ‘instigate the Muslims’ and said AIMPLB had no locus-standi in the case. “They are just trying to disturb the atmosphere of harmony,” he said, adding most of the Muslims would not agree with AIMPLB’s decision.

    The World Hindu Council of America or VHPA, that seeks its inspiration from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, said that for Hindus around the world, the Ram Janmabhoomi movement is a symbol of their centuries-old struggle against colonialism and the brutality and tragedy that came with it.

    The party's attack came even as National Herald, run by Associated Journals Limited (AJL) that is managed by senior Congress leaders, pulled down the article from its website. The newspaper, however, did not react to the BJP's criticism.

    The Ramalaya Nyas is headed by Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati and Swami Avimukteshwaranand is its secretary. It said in the letter that it was formed in 1994 after the enactment of the Ayodhya Act, 1993, which stipulated that a trust be formed in the future for the construction of the temple. Since the VHP’s Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas was formed in 1985.

    "The CM was very happy and beaming. He kept clapping as the verdict’s details were flashing and was once so overcome with emotion that he excused himself briefly from the room," sources said.

    The Nirmohi Akhara, which SC said should be assigned “an appropriate role in the management” of the proposed trust, has sought an appointment with PM Modi to put forth its view. “We want achche se achcha (best possible) post in the trust – of the chairman or the secretary. We have sought a meeting with the PM,” Mahant Dinendra Das of the Akhara told ET.
